Rousing, vibrant, inspiring – concerts by BACHS ERBEN always hit the mark with audiences.

We give top priority to young musicians’ development! BACHS ERBEN make chamber music and – to maintain historical authenticity – have no conductor. The ensemble is run in partnership with the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, and the artistic director is the harpsichordist Raphael Alpermann. Musically, they focus on the works and contemporaries of Johann Sebastian Bach, after whom they are named, but also like to go on “detours” into the early classical period.

Young musicians aged between roughly 12 and 24 can book places on the three or four projects per year, as long as they have an advanced command of the instrument. Prospective new participants are asked to provide references or audition for places. Rehearsals of course centre around concentrated work on the music, but without forgetting to have fun. The many concerts held in interesting places are an experience not only for the audience, but also for the young musicians themselves. There are trips to China, Bulgaria, Colombia and Finland, appearances at renowned festivals such as the Handel Festival in Halle, the Bach Festival in Leipzig, the Fasch Festival in Zerbst / Anhalt, the Thuringian Bach Festival or the Nuremberg Organ Festival – BACHS ERBEN are a success story!

Young people who love baroque music – is that really a thing? It sure is! You can find them in Michaelstein, where they are known as BAROCCANER! We give top priority to young musicians’ development!

Music students (woodwinds, strings, keyboard instruments and plucked instruments) aged 12 and up meet here regularly, twice a year, to learn how to play baroque music as an ensemble under the guidance of a team of internationally sought-after specialists in early music. Anyone who likes early music and performing with others can sign up, as long as they are familiar with simple baroque music.

Courses always focus on different topics, such as rhythm/percussion, baroque dance, singing etc., introducing young musicians to the central characteristics of baroque music through their own experiences and performance.

A family-friendly weekend dedicated to the deepest, biggest and most versatile musical instrument!

For years, this course has simply been a huge hit among participating children and accompanying family members!

Bass-playing children experience the many facets of “their” instrument, enjoy a sense of community with their peers, benefit from numerous teachers and coaches, gain from an experienced physiotherapist's expert advice on warm-ups/posture/prophylactic physiotherapy and have mixed feelings when it’s time for the final concert, as that means everyone will soon be going home, and the great time they’ve had at the abbey will be over.

Includes:

  • Private lessons with various teachers
  • Internal participant performances
  • Music-making in bass ensembles
  • Open group learning
  • Leisure activities for accompanying relatives

Artistic & educational director:
Prof. Stephan Petzold (HfM Hanns Eisler, Berlin) and a team of teachers

Next Kurs: 24/25 - 27 March 2022
