Standard tours lasting approx. 90 minutes can be booked in advance including the museum with the cloisters, the monastic gardens and the music exhibition “KlangZeitRaum” – Solving the Secret of Music. These are designed for groups of up to 30 people. Larger groups are divided up and can take a tour at the same time, on request.

Special tours are recommended for any visitors who are interested in a specific topic, are elderly or have difficulty walking. These individual tours of specific areas take roughly 1 hour and do not involve a great deal of stair-climbing. Visitors are then free to view the remaining areas of the museum if so desired.

A special tour is available on Salomon de Caus’ music machine, demonstrating live how water sets a sculpture in motion and plays a water organ with a pinned barrel. This tour is offered to groups of up to 60 people and takes roughly 45 minutes. Visitors are then free to view the remaining areas of the museum if so desired.

Special children’s tours have been designed for young visitors of different ages and levels of education. The group (of up to 25 children) can, of course, select certain areas they wish to visit.

When the nights draw in, evening tours by candlelight bring out the dignified beauty of the cloisters particularly starkly. These tours introduce visitors to the places where the monks once lived and worked. It takes roughly 1 hour.

Group trips
The Harz region has plenty of places worth seeing, but Michaelstein, with its idyllic location in a Harz valley, is a real gem. You could spend hours and days exploring its meadows, fields and woods, fishponds and the monastery itself. Whether you travel individually, on a guided tour, for a concert or during an event, the gardens and historical grounds provide a breathtaking backdrop. Michaelstein is a good base for day trips and longer hikes on foot or by bike; accommodation is available – right in the abbey courtyard – at the hotel and inn “Zum Weissen Mönch”. We create a full, individual package tailored to your wishes.

Travel companies
Looking for a special place for your travel group? Michaelstein is well worth a visit all year round. Discover Michaelstein’s musical world on the combined “Dreiklang” tour. Afterwards, pop into the hotel and inn “Zum Weissen Mönch” for lunch or coffee and cake. Separate areas are reserved in the visitor car park just for coaches. Just a few minutes’ walk and you are in the unique monastery landscape.

We will be happy to offer you advice and put together a package.
We look forward to receiving your enquiry.
